Frantsium (Fr, atomic number 87) is a highly radioactive alkali metal that was discovered in 1940 by Marguerite Perey at the Curie Institute in Paris. It is the most unstable of the first 101 elements on the periodic table, with its most stable isotope, francium-223, having a half-life of only 22 minutes. Due to its extreme rarity and radioactivity, very little frantsium has been produced or studied, making it one of the least understood elements. It is estimated that there are only about 30 grams of frantsium in the entire Earth's crust at any given time. Frantsium is highly reactive and is considered to be similar to cesium in its chemical properties.
