A alphabet-based orthography for Hokkien, created and introduced by Presbyterian Christian missionaries in the 19th century in places like Kulangsu/Gulangyu (Kó͘-lōng-sū) in Amoy/Xiamen and spread beyond where they ministered to Hokkien speakers, such as Taiwan, etc. Has also been adapted for other languages, such as Hakka, Teochew, Hinghwa, etc.
